Accessibility Statement

Prime Years is built for people in their prime years. That means the site has to be easy to read, easy to click, and easy to use. If any part of it is not, we want to hear about it and we will fix it.

Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We treat that as the floor, not the finish line. Accessibility is checked as we build each page rather than added at the end.

What is built into every page

• Text size controls. The A− and A+ buttons at the top of every page make all text larger or smaller, and your choice is remembered as you move around the site.
• High contrast mode. The High Contrast button switches the whole site to black text on white with heavier borders.
• Skip to main content. A skip link is the first thing keyboard and screen reader users reach, so you do not have to tab through the menu on every page.
• Visible focus outlines. Every link, button, and form field shows a clear outline when you reach it with the keyboard.
• Colour contrast. Text and background combinations are checked to meet at least 4.5 to 1, the AA standard for normal text.
• Comfortable targets. Buttons and links are sized to be easy to hit, including on a phone or tablet.
• Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, our fade-in effects turn off automatically.
• Plain structure. Headings run in order, images carry descriptive alt text, and form fields have real labels rather than placeholder text only.

Where we still fall short

We would rather tell you than have you find out:

• Other people's websites. When you follow a link to a partner, you are on their site, under their accessibility standards, not ours.
• Our chat assistant. The chat window is provided by an outside service. We have limited control over how it behaves with a screen reader.
• We are still growing. New pages go up regularly. We check each one, but something can slip past us.
• No formal audit yet. Our testing is done in-house with keyboard-only navigation, contrast checking, and screen reader spot checks. We have not yet commissioned an independent third-party audit.

How we test

We navigate each page using only a keyboard, check colour contrast with automated tooling, review pages with a screen reader, and view the site on phones, tablets, and desktop computers at a range of text sizes.
